trying to get my lesson how grandma said

now i know running
for my life cannot be running from myself

rain flooding my home
all around is water
for me to wade
"beauty finds me dappled in ecstasy
i found by the magnolia outside

maybe these were killing fields
but today my heart is here"

I've led 20+ poetry events, supported emerging writers, and co-edited a SC anthology. As I prep for performances across the Southeast, I’m booking collaborations through early 2026. Let’s connect—schedule a 30-min consult to see what we can build.

I invite you to support Freedom Readers! We are helping kids learn to read in a country where books are actively being banned. Your support provides students with new books and funds our ongoing tutoring sessions. Give today and support the freedom to read.

Everything begins in childhood.
The song starts there, the poem.

It was a spring morning when I was born.
It was May. My mother’s hair was long.

The animals and earth were waking up,
preparing for a summer riot.

Before the 3 PM reading at the Myrtle Beach Art Museum, I will read my set 2-3 more times aloud. I will drink lots of water, pray, meditate, and sleep. Oh, and I will sit in the front yard. It is okay that I still get nervous. It means I care about what I am doing. 🫶🏾✨💜 #poetry #breath

Look at these smiles from Session Two of Office Hours! We talked about writing projects, poetry written by Ching-In Chen and Ra Malika Imhotep, and we wrote to the prompt above. We shared, and we laughed. Drop in whenever you'd like. I'll be there with a prompt and for mutual feedback on projects. 🫶🏿
