The moon in crepuscular rays illuminating a supercell

A quadrilateral of supercells emerges. #quadrilateralsupercellconspiracy

A yin-yang of lightning channel density from the tornadic supercell storm over Lubbock, and lightning in two overshooting tops showing the updraft of the main supercell and one that merged from the rear as the HP transition happened.

Firing up the ‘ol’ Linux cluster for a code sprint tonight. #opensauce

I like watching the real-time StickNet page for @PERiLS_Project since end of ops features works of art like “lonely probe,” “solitary station,” and “forever 10 km to my friends” @jmeso212 @ASchueth @kelcybrunner @metpy

Someone has decorated my doorframe at work and I am very pleased. https://journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/mwre/108/7/1520-0493_1980_108_1046_tcoept_2_0_co_2.xml

Good to have some lightning back in the @wtlma!

I always enjoy this lecture where we get to talk about a certain paper from 1752!

Turns out the pre-security OKC airport mezzanine observation deck is chock full of weather station plot symbols! #metar

Thanks to @osscams for a really well run GLASS conference and the opportunity to talk about the @nsf @nsf_lee project on the beautiful @sunyoswego campus! Here’s @SteigerScott introducing the project to a full, inquisitive room!

Here's a fun lightning flash: after an initial intracloud (upward negative channel), a second negative channel initiates near the first origin, heads off to the side, and then turns around and comes to ground on the other side of the original discharge. (cc: @ztresearch)

I get to mention integration by parts today, which is all the excuse I need to post… #uvvdu.

@SchmidtsRevenge I don’t know if #chipblog is still your scene, but these are an ABOMINATION. #glutenfree

The @wtlma detected the tracks of two commercial flights, and A321 and B737 flying about 5kft apart. The detections are from corona discharge from the static wicks on the wings/fuselage, resulting from flying through thick ice clouds that charge the aircraft.

Metadata, the hard way. (Or: the cost of being a multi-instrument scientist in the pre-QC early data period.)

In West Texas we buy our stringed instruments at the luthier ranch.

Nice aircraft track in the @wtlma data tonight

We found some really pleasant sites for our lightning sensors during the #ARMTRACER campaign, and are grateful for the generosity of the many residents of Winnie and Angleton who were so helpful as we surveyed the area!
November 18, 2024 at 2:00 PM
We're redeploying a couple @wtlma stations for the #ARMTRACER project for the next couple months, adding on to the Houston LMA operated by @loganen3. Today's noise tests at possible sites went well after yesterday's instrument checkout at our temporary suburban lab.

Here's the space-time structure for an updraft surge in the left-moving supercell between Seagraves and Plains. Uppermost cluster is in the overshooting top.

Full-quality streaming @wtlma processing detects a lot of points. (Graph is count by altitude for last ~4 min).

The smoke plume from a fire between Tatum and Plains on the NM border shows up nicely as a Zdr and rhv minimum. Long transport in our hearty winds today.
