eh, 6/5 what the heck
I remember my doctor telling me to bring my cane anyway, on good days, "so people will see you and be careful of you"
The hell they will! I'm treated so much better, that I am physically safer without it, when I can manage.
Does that seem a little ironic to anyone else?

Never mind that putting me through all that actually wastes more of their time, than if they just took a side step; I am now a Lesser Human and I shall not be allowed to occupy Their Space. These same people are perfectly civil to me when I can walk.

On my two-cane days, I lose all claim to public space. I'm scowled at yelled at, deliberately crowded...notably, I'm consistently expected to be the one to stop, change direction, and move out and around able bodied people who want to occupy the space I'm in...and boy, do they ever.

Make those crutches a cane, and strangers get impatient with me even if I'm limping faster than they're walking. They even make a point to catch up, get back in front of me, and go first when the walk sign turns. I'm less impaired than on crutches, but now it's part of my identity, I guess.

I'm tall, considered nice-looking, and white presenting, so before all this happened, I was aware that I moved through society with minimal friction, even some deference. Add crutches, and I received sympathy for my (apparently temporary?) situation...

Hugs! I get it; I was just telling a friend what a blessing it is to be nowhere near my fundie family members.
Since enrolling in my grammy's tribe, over my mother's objections (because shamanism 🙄), I claim a get-out-of Thanksgiving-free card.
Not sure about Christmas yet...there will be cats.
