The Lagoon Nebula (M8) is a star-forming cloud of gas 4,000 light-years away in Sagittarius. Spanning 55 light-years, it was discovered in 1654 by Italian astronomer Giovanni Battista Hodierna. Hubble captured this stunning view in 2018.

What is the most spook-tacular nebula in the galaxy?

One contender is LDN 43, which bears an astonishing resemblance to a vast cosmic bat flying amongst the stars on a dark Halloween night.

M35 (upper right) is a young, bright open cluster in Gemini, just 2,800 light-years away. NGC 2158 (lower left) is older, more compact, and four times farther. Open clusters like these slowly disperse over time as they orbit the Milky Way.

Ayyyy, my first post!
Hello Bluesky. I'm just a Southern woman navigating the fucked up world. I have a son who's just as feral as I am. A partner who embraces it and 6 cats who really rule the roost. I'm excited for this app and the friends I have yet to meet. 💕

The DEI caused the plane crash narrative is a distraction. The tariffs are a distraction. Whatever insane nonsense Trump spews that the media will chase like cats chasing a laser light is a distraction. The only story that counts right now is the wholesale hijacking of control of the US government.

"You always need that iconic specimen that is going to catch your imagination so you can think broadly and ask the question, where do we come from?" said Dr. Zeray Alemseged on the importance of Lucy's fossil—the very first specimen of Australopithecus afarensis found.
50 Years Of Science With Lucy, Our Famous Early Ancestor
On the anniversary of Lucy’s discovery, paleoanthropologists reflect on what she means to science, and what she taught us about ourselves.

SPEAKING OF GARDENS

yall better have library cards. Some (most!!) public library systems have seed libraries and libraries of things where you can borrow things you may not need to own.

Also libraries are revolutionary and librarians have always been on the front lines
