There are no guarantees that 'villages' are supporting families despite everyone agreeing that they should. Accessing support is not straightforward either. Interactions between parents + professionals can be shaped by a range of factors including gender, age, ethnicity and class

My study is set in the context of lots of children and families policies outlining the role of parents, including

My findings reveal a complex + inconsistent landscape, highlighting a postcode lottery not only re professional/service responses, but also in how the role + value of parents are perceived, and the impacts/outcomes of positive/negative interactions between parents + professionals

Interviewing 25 parent and professional participants from all over Scotland provided a wealth of diverse data, reflecting the varying circumstances, backgrounds and experiences of both participant groups relating to life at home, in communities and at work

My research based in Scotland found a not only a disconnect between policy and practice, also a misalignment of perspectives and priorities between parents and professionals about the best interests, needs and rights of their children aged between 3-5yrs old.
