The religious leaders are taking the crowd to church with their opposition to this shelter.

“Unaffordable, unsafe or just plain unavailable housing” is the problem in a system that places “profit over people” says a Unitarian minister who says it is a “moral failing.”

Rev. Brigette Weir is giving a fiery sermon calling out supporters and politicians “who will profit from human souls” and brands the shelter as a “concentration camp.”

She says Utah lawmakers are abandoning housing first, nor have they ever given it a chance to succeed.

Crossroads Urban Center’s Bill Tibbets says the mega-shelter “is just a bad idea.” He likens it to a prison, says there’s no transportation to the site.

Religious leaders are also here saying this will not create safety or trust by warehousing hundreds of people.

She points out the mosquito problem and says “there are no good solutions.” Either expose them to mosquitoes or spray people with pesticides.
