Despite their tripled pawns, black has a mate in two on the board!

You use lichess in LIGHT MODE?

I think rapid ratings are significantly higher for everyone on lichess though, just because of the number of games and statistics?

In most apps, games against bots don't influence your online rating to match other players.

Which one is he playing on currently?

I'm surprised the article made no mention of live traps. I prefer to catch and "deport" mice (and one time a squirrel) rather than handling their dead bodies. Even when double bagging them on the trash, it's quite nasty.

I have never lost a game against any GM

Garry has some bad takes once in a while (such as trying to coin NFTs, or fear mongering about Zohran Mamdani), but I think he's respectable and generally well spoken.

What did he do to earn your hate?

The solution is:

...Qxd4!
Qxd4 Nxc2+

We exchange Queens, take one of white's central pawns, prevent white from castling, and place our knight on a central square

I think this makes sense lol. I stand very little chance of beating a 2000 rated player in a game in any time format. I never deserved the 2500+ puzzle rating they gave me.

Move evaluations are inherently subjective, but chesscom basically awards a "brilliant" at times when the best available move is a sacrifice.

Frankly, I would be happy just for the audience of a debate to be able to spot logical fallacies and disregard bad arguments (especially when they already agree with the side making the bad arguments).

It's hard to overcome biases and not to fall for tricks!

Chess is very good at matchmaking (lichess.org or chess.com).

Any 1v1 fighting game with a large active community is also very good in my experience, as long as there is still an influx of new players.

Chess doesn't have to be fun for you, but it is fun for other people, including myself.

It's also a very communal game with a rich history.

Chess 960 is definitely hard mode for me.

In normal chess, I have an idea of the first 3-5 moves I will play, and how I will adapt based on my opponent's responses. In some common positions, I can also fall back on principals to get my pieces on useful squares.

960 forces me to improvise

What does *from* that region even mean, in a world where immigration and trade make most culture global?

Most foods that we consider to be from somewhere are adapted from somewhere else before. Where do fusion dishes fit in, or dishes that are heavily adapted to their new home (e.g. general tsao's)

Never resign in online games though. In this position pictured, black resigned. I went from a losing position to a drawn one, and then the opponent resigned randomly. So now it's just a complete win. Note: it's impossible to force a checkmate with king and bishop.

Pic unrelated?

Also, Wilhelm Steinitz was the first American world champion.

Playing online is great because you can always get evenly matched opponents, but playing with friends/in a club is a more fun experience.

Good quote. It's a shame how Kramnik has tarnished his legacy by vocally and baselessly accusing honest players of cheating.

Is it gxf8=Q, thus checkmating at any square where the black king could possibly be in the original position?
August 6, 2025 at 6:20 PM
I'm going to need some help here
August 6, 2025 at 6:18 PM
You seem to have forgotten Wilhelm Steinitz.

If you judge by current number of GMs in the top 20 players, USA is very well represented by Hikaru Nakamura (2), Faibiano Caruana (3), Wesley So (12), Lenier Dominguez Perez (15), Levon Aronian (16), and Hans Niemann (17)

That's what I was thinking. If opponent doesn't move a pawn, Kc6 to protect the path for promotion.
