I get to have the wasp-like, Tuatha matriarch say, "If everyone’s done swinging their aedeagus organs around, perhaps we can get to the point of the visit." Hopefully, the implication is clear, but one can always google aedeagus. 😀 #urbanfantasy #cryptid #cryptids

Some recent reviews for The Half-Life of Grief:
"what an amazing story! very difficult to genuinely feel for characters in a novel setting, but dean does a wonderful job with fleshing out these characters and this whole universe. the very end hit me in the feels in a good way.

Another post made me want to share the back of my business card. Perhaps an idea for those uncomfortable signing things for readers but still giving them something. A pre-printed autograph. I can't take full credit for the idea having heard Steve Martin does something similar. Just sharing for fun.

This, too, is all part of the writing process that I enjoy. GoogleEarth and realty pages are helpful.

Therefore, I know the streets my protagonists live on and have blueprints of "their" homes. I had so many ideas of what would happen with the first victim in Cryptid Summer and it took A LONG time, but in researching rental homes, local jobs, etc. it all ended up gelling nicely.
November 25, 2025 at 4:47 PM
"So, what did you do last night?"
"I determined where the victim lived, their route home from work, where their death will occur, and how their body will be found."
"Uh, because you're a writer, correct?"
"Hm? Oh, yeah. I should lead with that."

In my continuing support of indie authors, I am currently reading Earthrise by MCA Hogarth. She had a number of books on offer, so it was hard to choose. I was a bit in the mood for scifi, since I hadn't read that genre in a while.

Saw this posted elsewhere and had to add my song idea:
Whoa, Black Betty, bam-ba-lam
Whoa, Black Betty, bam-ba-lam
Black Betty had a child, bam-ba-lam
The damn thing gone wild, bam-ba-lam

Feel free to add yours in the comments. 😀

Because my brain won't be satisfied, I've moved on to the next project, a Detective Maggie Dawson sequel called Cryptid Summer. This will come out long after Hunt For the Sancuvar and the two follow-up Dragon Vet stories, Medusa's Lament and Of Wings & Claws.
November 19, 2025 at 4:05 AM
I've contacted my editor for her availability next year with Hunt For the Sancuvar planned to come out first, followed later in the year by these new Dragon Vet stories. Hard to believe I started the original trilogy four years ago.
November 17, 2025 at 1:05 AM
Okay, I've "finished" my side of the edits for the next two stories in the Dragon Vet series. The air quotes are there because editing is never finished until the Publish button is hit. However, it's nice to have completed drafts so I can move on to the next project(s). #dragon #dragons #fantasy

Her new mom and dad were well-meaning, but when the novelty didn’t meet their expectations, and, yeah, I’m making a story here, but I’ve seen it before, well, they put her into the foster system. Satyrs are empathic, and when I met her, she said she wanted to be a psychiatrist.

Away from the hostess stand, Kyle saw her legs were covered in dark-brown fur, and she had a triangular, raised tail that poked through a seam in the back of her black shorts. It twitched in short arcs, her hooves clopping on the wooden floor as she walked them to their table.
November 14, 2025 at 4:38 AM
Maggie heard the insinuation, unable to suppress a return smile.
“Yeah, this is my new partner, Kyle Mason. Kyle, Deirdra.”
“Pleasure to meet you,” he said.
“The pleasure’s all mine,” the hostess replied with a raised eyebrow and tilt of her head.

She wore a tight t-shirt that emphasized her bust, with the name and logo of the restaurant on it. Kyle was assessing her features, trying to figure out what they reminded him of.
“Hey, Deirdra,” Maggie said cheerfully.

A little longer excerpt from my urban fantasy, The Half-Life of Grief, where all cryptids are real. Detective Maggie Dawson takes her new partner, Kyle Mason, to her favorite restaurant in Ybor.

The hostess had long hair dyed purple and green, her head shaved on one side.
