A Ringtausch was not mentioned in the article and if it were intended, I would assume the authors would have mentioned it.

* Small correction: 78 Marder 1A5 IFVs have reportedly offered to Brazil, not 75. Getting up early today definitely didn't do me any good.

At present, however, I would treat this report with a great deal of caution. I have, of course, already enquired with the German Ministry of Defence as well as with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence to get a confirmation and possibly even more details on the matter. I'll get back to you ASAP.

Given the well-known problems with the supply of spare parts to the AFU (to be fair it's getting better) the reported rejection by the Ukrainian government would make at least partly sense.

According to T&D, the vehicles which originate from Bundeswehr stocks and have been overhauled by KNDS are said to have a high degree of wear and tear and are considered unsuitable for modernization.

Officially, Germany has so far delivered two Skynex systems to Ukraine and promised two more. Unofficially, at least one, if not both, of the promised systems should already be in service in Ukraine, as both were to be delivered by the end of 2025.

However, we have not yet seen any visual confirmation or received more details on the matter (I don't mean to imply that he is lying) – video footage and details of Skynex air defence systems in AFU service are rarely released & so far only shows the interception of Russian loitering munitions.

In other words, Ukraine still lacks an investor willing to put a few billion euros on the table for the production of German IFVs in Ukraine and unless one is found, things likely won't move forward.

Seems like things are slowly moving — agreement on defence-industrial cooperation signed mid-October which facilitates the development of joint industrial projects like manufacturing Lynx IFVs in Ukraine — however, the whole project still seems far from being finalised.

Upon enquiry, I was told that the interview was conducted two weeks ago. So around the same time when many accounts here were widely announcing that Ukraine had chosen the Lynx. Just to put things into perspective regarding the actual and current status of the project.

These are most likely still test vehicles as it was originally announced to supply ten of them to Ukraine, with only one ever to be confirmed to be delivered.

Building a factory in Ukraine would only make sense if at least 200 to 300 vehicles were to be built there. According to Papperger, Rheinmetall is currently building five Lynx IFVs in Germany for Ukraine, but that's it.

For the first time, I am now unable to provide complete data, as the federal government now also classifies a rough sum of military expenditure as confidential, even though this would only allow conclusions to be drawn about whether Germany provided a lot or a little support to Ukraine.

The largest part of the funds are still being spent on accommodation and care for the approximately 1.2 million Ukrainians who have found protection in Germany.

Das ist richtig. Wenn man in den USA, in Asien und natürlich auch massiv in die ukrainische Wehrindustrie investieren würde, bekäme man das Geld sicherlich untergebracht. Aber das würde eben genau das voraussetzen.
