This is a bad argument. We've had SoundCloud and YouTube clones and a bunch of other things that aren't capable of showing everything in every context. It's not the problem that the author thinks it is.

The real problem is broken context, and an insistence that every service is a platform.

Given that the app doesn’t work with a database of any kind, I’m going to look into serializing / deserializing the entire Music Library, so that data persists between sessions. Which means that I'll have to protect against dupes when starting up the app again.

Playback will also be interesting to figure out. Java’s audio API doesn’t support MP3 out of the box, but JavaFX does. I want to also keep track of playback, updating timestamps and a slider position as a track progresses.

The next part will be more challenging. I’ve got fake music represented by data, and a way to see it in a Music Library.

After that, parsing metadata from MP3 files, and using all of those values in track creation. Once I’ve got that down, it’ll be time to figure out playback.

So far, I’ve got a data representation of a music library, tracks, and artists. If an artist doesn’t currently exist, it’s created from a String value. If it does exist in a HashMap, the value will be taken from the matching key and used instead.

Oh! Okay, this is really interesting. I need to go to bed, it's almost 4am, but I'll keep looking at what they're building and see what could fit.

Hang on, I've been out of the loop for too long, let me go read about it!

I feel like a lot of computer-adjacent people grew up with 4Chan and assumed that hacking meant stuff like doing DDoS with the LOIC. They just kind of assumed these exptic programs existed that gave people superpowers.

In hindsight, it's so funny to think about.

Maui Onion is so freaking good. I tried a few out of curiosity, and then I guess I blacked out and ate the entire bag.

Notebook LM is super super interesting. I'm still skeptical of most ML products, but it's kind of cool to put a bunch of data sources together and be able to query it with a language model.

I’m also on way more social networks than she is, and I find good stuff all over the place. I don’t want to open four different apps just to share the stuff I like with her.

The main reason I want this is because my wife has this habit of sharing her favorite Tumblr posts with me. Basically, we go through all of her bookmarked posts until we get back to something we saw the last time we did this.

She calls it "sharing shinies", in reference to how corvids share rocks.

Hang in there, man, you will get through this. ♥️

I've been on the Fediverse for 15 years, done journalism for about 10 of them, did community management for about 3 years, and worked a professional tech background for roughly about 9 years?

Hopefully that's enough? 😅

As the face of your project's community, I can keep people excited about what you're building, field complaints and concerns, and keep the community feeling at ease about where the project is at.

I have prior experience from working on Diaspora, know the space extensively, and make friends easily.
