Hey @spacecowboy17.bsky.social, your For You feed is really great! I was wondering if you had any source code or docs for how your feed works?

I've got a guy doing PeerTube dev (making a video rec algo), and my first thought was to refer him to your feed and say "Do it like this".

Oh shit, this is a really great way to solve the PDS registration problem. I wonder if the same thing could be used for ActivityPub account creation?
So I saw the discuss the other day about "how do we initiate user registration for PDSes?", and well, here's a solution to that: github.com/bluesky-soci...

There's a little known OIDC prompt mode called `create` which does exactly this. The above PR implements this mode.

Here's a demo:

Look, I think Ghost is a really great publishing platform. But after dogfooding their #Fediverse integration for six months, I'm realizing there's still a lot missing. With their blog dormant, I'm left to wonder: is development still happening?
Ghost's ActivityPub Integration Feels Half-Baked
Their work is far from over, but lack of development and progress is leaving me wanting.

“How hard can it be?” is a hilarious cosmic joke featuring hubris. I’m finally starting to understand it from the point of writing software.

I’m writing a desktop music player as part of my Computer Science Class / as an open source thing for my own education. I’ve wisely named it Boomer.

It looks like poop and doesn't actually play music yet, but I'm learning a lot.

I've made dystopia a little more comfortable for myself: whenever I'm subjected to surveillance capitalism, I decide to vocally support putting advertisement departments into wood chippers, loud enough for my phone to hear.

For my capstone project in Computer Science, I’m writing a desktop music player in Java. I’ve never tried to build one before, but it seems like a decent challenge, and it covers the different data structures we’ve learned about.

I've been thinking about media platforms in the #Fediverse geared around artists. I think the network is in dire need of having support for commerce.

Not "Big Capitalism" commerce, but the ability for people to buy/sell things, support projects, and commission people to keep making stuff.
The Fediverse and Content Creation: Monetization
Sure, we have open source, federated replacements for Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube. How do we get creators to use this stuff? One consideration involves the ability to pay for things.

Not only is the concept of an alpha male fundamentally flawed, but the idea that certain men feel the need to proclaim their alpha male status almost definitely means they’re anything but.

Dreams can sometimes shed incredible insight into human insecurities.

Last night’s dream: “I wanted to fly my fighter jet to school, but I just found out that my wife is leaving me.”

I've been thinking for a while about writing a simple app, because I haven't done app development before. The first thing I would love to make is a social bookmarking app for posts, that lets you save stuff into different categories.

Basically what Firefish had back in the day.

A little proof of concept I've been working on, it's a version of Bluesky that you can run locally, even on your laptop, that pulls just the data you care about from the firehose, indexes it, and provides you an interface to view and interact with posts.

Imagine if toaster companies required you to buy proprietary bread that only worked in specific toaster models.

That's where we're at with so many printers.

I beat Wolfenstein: The New Order yesterday, and started playing Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. What a series! I can’t believe I slept on these.

Gunplay is absolutely amazing, story is great, level design is absolutely killer. Loads of fun, and a perfect outlet for aggression and frustration.

The computer science course I'm taking this semester is a lot of fun, but the most recent stuff is super challenging. It's all Java-based, which I'm actually doing okay with, but refactoring code to incorporate new concepts is super hard.

Also, implementing Linked Lists from scratch suuuuuucks.

Where's a good place to go to find all the cool stuff being built by Bluesky / ATproto devs? I want to start covering this stuff more closely.

Maybe @bmann.ca can steer me in the right direction?

Dogs, particularly beagles, have the uncanny habit of both being deep sleepers, and also discerning the slight crinkling sound of a bag of chips. By the time they hear it, you’re already too late, and they’re silently asking for some.

I unwrap a Babybel Cheese for the beagles to enjoy. The dogs watch intensely, their tails wagging faster and faster. I can feel their eyes on me. 👀
