That’s just the amusing end of the stick. The insurmountable problem is that “how much meat you can consume” has been a measure of prosperity since pre-history. It’s very hard to imagine what political conditions would lead to any action on this.

Is this not just the reality of the senate? As a rule, there aren’t exactly a ton of levers to pull when incumbency is at least as valuable to the party as the candidate.

They’re betraying the defectors, which makes it much less likely there will be defectors next shutdown

This is giving the voters too much credit. Trump is president, it’s a Republican government. We’re talking about people who blame gas prices on the president. Justly or not, whoever’s in power gets praise or blame for how things go generally.

Anecdotally, a lot of young people are naively apocalyptic about the national debt, so this may change with age pretty quickly.

It’s not “about” the taxation of trade routes, that’s just something mentioned as for why the trade federation is blockading Naboo. There’s zero information about trade, routes, or taxes in the movie.

A longer shutdown would have been better, but it’s not clear to me why an eternal shutdown would be better than repeated shutdowns, which are not quite so ruinous for federal employees and SNAP beneficiaries.

Overall, this is clearly not the ending we wanted to the shutdown. A thanksgiving shutdown would have been seriously damaging to Trump. Still, a lot of damage was done and it’s unclear how much of a better deal could have been gotten.

Once we're in universe two healthcare isn't about winning policy concessions - although if you can, great! It's about making Republicans look awful for refusing to give on healthcare. It's a battle of political attrition, and "a vote" is probably the best ask you can get. So it's about other stuff.

the problem is that people get information only from two sources: the claims of AI proponents and AI opponents. What’s missing is looking at the attempts by people and industry to actually use it and seeing what kind of gains could be made.
