For the sake of humanity, I hope the bubble pops very soon. For my own sake, I hope I find something else to develop an unhealthy and obsessive relationship with before I fall back into the emptiness. I also hope to be mentally well enough to play BG3 again, god I miss Astarion.
However, I cannot continue to idolise their current image. I wish them the best, I’m sure their next game will be amazing. I hope they come to realise why their actions and decisions are still harmful, but according to my new understanding of them, it may be too muck to ask.

But at least for now, I’m choosing to believe it so I don’t have a mental breakdown. I hope they’ll come to realise that even the tiniest contributions play a part in building a reality they have spoken up against, if their past criticisms can be taken sincerely.
I know there are gen AI models that train on consented work, but I doubt those models have sufficient data, and the environmental and industrial impact is still present. It seems they’re yet to dismiss it, and I’m afraid this issue will come back again in the future.

With the pro gen AI ppl coming out in support, and a large portion of the fan base not willing to hold a good developer to ethical standards, I’m really afraid they’ll learn the wrong lesson, and become just another developer that’s too successful for accountability.

I feel like this is the beginning of something bad. Bigotry has no place anywhere, but somehow one type of hate is always used to fuel another, used to gain more control and fabricate justification.

Even if your employees aren’t the ones losing their jobs, you’re still funding the use and harms of genAI, and trying to normalise it. Other artists will pay the price, smaller artists with a lesser voice. Marginalised ppl will suffer the environmental consequences.
Tolerance builds, being ok with a little today usually leads to being ok with a lot down the line. “Using it just for inspiration” is a gateway. You can make fantastic games without gen AI, you’ve done it again and again in the past, why fumble now?

I had my wisdom tooth removed yesterday, decided to not take pain killers, and this is still more painful.
As someone with a really unhealthy obsession with BG3 and its characters, I’m dying right now.
