Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Academic freedom and meritocracy will be finished. Our scientific institutions will be no better than China or Russia. Leveraging science against Humanities/Social Sciences/Fine Arts. Where have we seen this in our history books?

I feel like AI is going to make earning a C in college classes go extinct. There will be four types of students
1) Those who do the work and get As/Bs
2) Those who cheat, don't get caught, and get As/Bs
3) Those who cheat, get caught, and get Fs
4) Those who don't do the work and get Fs

Had a group meeting to tell my new grad students that I have choice paralysis and am really not sure what they should work on and that it's a very stressful challenging time to start grad school, but we quickly pivoted to brainstorming and then both of them getting exciting first projects.

Yay, @dwappett.bsky.social is finally here posting a great accomplishment made while working in my lab! Here's to many more, and for her to find an awesome next job (that she is going to be looking for soon because of funding or lack thereof)

Do yall remember that republican lawyer who cataloged instances of police brutality on twitter during the BLM protests and then disappeared after the number of videos hit quadruple digits? I thought that was going to be rock bottom

my favorite thing about youtube ads now being able to scoot around AdBlock is that there is also this nearly 8 second pause of black screen in between a first and second ad. Like it's loading a fucking dungeon in Morrowind on my laptop from 2006 or something

Does anyone else feel like in this world where manufacturing quality and the durability of things gets crappier and crappier, PreztelChips keep getting saltier and more addictively good?

The President of our University had a town hall meeting yesterday, which I think is a good thing to do with all of the federal chaos. I couldn't make it though. Today we get an email with the subject "Town Hall Recap" which is just a link to the video recording. That's not a recap.

I got a manuscript rejected and one comment was "there is no chemical insight here" but we were looking at data in a new way that I thought was cool even if admittedly it's not hugely impactful. Anyway, that made me feel like shit

Had an amazing visit to OSU over the weekend and Monday. Great encouragement about my research from people I have a ton of respect for, watched lots of intense college hoops with @jlsabel.bsky.social & her lovely dogs & spouse, hatching proposal plans with John H, eating too much great food. Thanks!
