Community college professor in California, teaching inclusive Anatomy & Physiology, she/they
How are we all doing this semester? It’s that time of the semester I feel like I’m barely keeping up! I know the students are with me on that one. I handed out some CA poppy seeds from my yard for them to spread before the rain as something to look forward to!

Feeling low energy while grading? Put on some Banda my friends. Banda maguey is playing right now and despite this rainy day I’m feeling like 💃. #banda #grading

Teaching students about inherited metabolic disorders today. Even though I’ve been teaching anatomy and physiology for 10+ years this is my first time! Each college I teach at has their own approach to the subject. Focus today is PKU, maple syrup urine disease, & galactosemia. #anatomyandphysiology

Meal prepping on Sundays include making rosemary and sundried tomato sourdough loaves! Teaching during the week is a lot, so if I don’t do some preparation on Sundays I get HANGRY haha #mealprep #teacher

Happy start of semester to everyone! What are your first day of class Must Haves? At community college I usually do: “Name, pronouns, and 3 things you like that all start with the same letter.”

Mine: Dani, she/they, powerlifting, puppies, pokemon!

Daaang ok conversation time: how many women or femme presenting teachers have changed a grade because they were scared of a student? Part of some conversations today and I am extremely surprised about how common this seems to be. #EduSky

I’ve been doing a Teachers for Equity group at a community college in my district and we just finished our first semester! Learned a lot from reading Dr Kendi’s “How to be an Antiracist” over the semester and learned TONS from fellow teachers and how they incorporate antiracist practices. #EduSky

Had the “test” on the human cadaver that I’ve been working so hard to be ready for and smashed it out of the park! Now this district knows I can teach anatomy using a human cadaver and can hire me for their anatomy courses. Such a relief to have that done! #EduSky #iTeachBio

My colleagues at UCF have created a fantastic free resource on using ChatGPT in classrooms. Even more, they present a pedagogical approach to teaching about LLMs in general. #edusky #academicsky

This semester I’ve been training (unpaid) on a human cadaver so I can teach an anatomy class that uses cadavers heavily next semester (hopefully). It’s definitely worth it because it’s improving my experience to share with all students, whether they learn on models or cadavers. #edusky #iteachbio

I’m an adjunct professor and this semester switched to 2 new colleges so I’m getting evaluated at both by the Dean and a faculty member. I know it’s meant to be a collegial experience but I do still get a bit stressed. Excited that I just have one more next week! #edusky

I’m teaching cadaver muscles for the first time this week (I’ve taught off models in the past)! I’ve been doing much prep work to get ready, but I teach in multiple districts and keeping all the muscles, actions, and O/Is each college wants their students to know is making me cross eyed lol #edusky

Made an extra credit assignment for students to “throw shade at a supermarket skeleton” by correcting 5 missing or inaccurate bone features and the resulting videos have been hilarious, highly recommend #edusky

Every other Friday I meet with a group of teachers to discuss equity and our practices to promote equity in our classrooms. We talked today about late work policies. Mine is you can turn assignments in up until the exam the work is meant to help with (+ a 1x late assignment). What about you? #EduSky

Viruses are cool and it's fun to debate whether we should consider them alive or not (self replicating, check! But no nucleus or plasma membrane or ribosomes... X!)
imagine being the first person to see a bacteriophage through a microscope and realizing that there are tiny d20s with spring loaded dna injection legs floating around everywhere and we can't see them

I'm curious if any teachers have considered recording podcasts to act as a resource for their classes? I teach anatomy & physiology and many students want to be able to use their driving time to "study." I have a dream when I'm hired full time I can take a sabbatical and do this. #EDUsky
