That’s exactly it. Once he stopped stretching the side and playing midfielders out of position things started to work. Stop using the midfield as cover for defenders. Use Gomez and Ramsey at RB. Use Rhys Williams at CB if you have to. Can’t be any worse than what we are doing now.

It took him finally trusting players who he didn’t trust before. Same with Pep to a degree last season. Lesson for Slot in there.

Slot may not do it for reasons, but think it’s a bit short sighted, considering both how he looked last time out and other injuries he has to manage. Wirtz is out, Macca hasn’t really shown he can do 90 3 games a week, so Jones/Dom needed in midfield. We’ll see.

I don’t see why he can’t. He looked perfectly capable against Southampton, who was PL team last season. Not sure NF bring anything special to the table we should be that afraid of, considering their form this season.

I think one of the issues that extended our bad run in 20/21 was Klopp trying to use senior players out of position rather trust young players in their natural position, which ended up exacerbating the injury issues. I fear Slot may fall into that trap as well. Pep also struggled with it last year.

What business would that leave for the summer? Endo out and another midfielder. Robbo gets another year, Kostas as backup or another LB? Obviously CB, depends on Konate.

I got on to him about a year ago after reading a report which ranked him top 5 u23 midfielders in Europe. Role is definitely different than what he was asked under Nuno, but you could see he was one of the primary reasons for their success. He’s definitely gone up a level.
