The White House East Wing is gone — see what historic moments and memories it once held.
The East Wing of the White House is gone. Here's a look at some of the history made there
Betty Ford reportedly said that if the White House West Wing is the “mind” of the nation, then the East Wing is the “heart.”

When you publish a website that posts the names and photos of scholars who have written or said things you disagree with and encourage people to surveil and harass them, you are not, in fact, a “free speech” organization.
It is quite simply dishonest to describe TPUSA as a “free speech” organization and not even mention the “Professor Watchlist,” as NPR just did. Reporting on a crime does not entail adopting the victim’s views.

Charleston, South Carolina, a city intensely vulnerable to the effects of climate change, is suing oil companies over global warming. President Trump says lawsuits like these threaten national security. The judge wants to hear what both sides think.

Today is Confederate Memorial Day, a state holiday in Alabama. Editor @brianlyman.bsky.social writes that men who died to uphold white supremacy deserve no honor. But their lives contain warnings for us in this dark political moment.
A poisoned cause, a pointless sacrifice | Alabama Reflector
Confederate Memorial Day is nothing but a celebration of lives given up for hatred, and the poison all that left behind.

Fascinating that this is coming out as Trump and DeSantis get ready to engage in a proxy power struggle during the 2026 gubernatorial race. Looks like the Florida Republicans want to clear Casey DeSantis out of the race to make way for Byron Donalds.

I have just learned that Indiana's state drink is water. Couldn't have guessed that based on the water quality in Valparaiso.

One of the ways that Andor may land differently this time is that lots of people have suddenly come to understand that dull seeming bureaucratic infrastructure is really, really important.

A couple of thoughts on this. First, contempt hearings won't fix the non-implementation issue that the courts face when clashing with the president. But the media coverage of those hearings can be a signal to voters that the president is violating norms.
A federal judge in Washington threatened on Wednesday to open a high-stakes contempt investigation into whether the Trump administration violated an order he issued last month directing officials to stop planes of Venezuelan migrants from being sent to El Salvador.
Judge Finds Probable Cause to Hold Trump Officials in Contempt Over Deportation Flights
The move was a remarkable attempt by a jurist to hold the White House accountable for its apparent willingness to flout court orders.
