To make it visible I had to go to the "Special Settings" -> "Downloadable Content" section and check "Highlight" on the DLC.

It took some time, but the Free "make your own physical edition" DLC for Encounter is now visible on the game store page. 🎉
November 21, 2025 at 11:02 AM
Now if anyone knows why I don't see the DLC listed on the store page for the main product, would be nice to know!

Is it because it's a free DLC, or did I forget to enable something?
November 21, 2025 at 10:35 AM
Well, it's working, thanks!
November 21, 2025 at 10:28 AM
And I guess I need to add a subfolder to clearly indicate that these "English" and "Francais" are part of the DLC
November 21, 2025 at 10:10 AM
I was dumb: The build was uploaded and published, but it was not on the "default" branch🤦
November 21, 2025 at 10:08 AM
Not sure why, it seems to have been publish but indeed it's not show.

Is it better to have the DLC have its own entry or to have the depot through the base product?
November 21, 2025 at 8:38 AM
Hmm, not quite sure what I did wrong: When I click "Download" it actually starts the launcher for the game and if I browse the steam folder I don't actually see my DLC in it.

Also the main game store page does not show the DLC (but I can see it if I go to the section myself)

My DLC store page has been accepted... now I just need to find out how the heck I can upload files!

(It's my very first DLC, never did that before, so brand new here)

J'ai maintenant une version Française du manuel de Encounter, si quelqu'un veut jeter un coup d'oeuil histoire de voir si ca n'est pas truffé d'erreurs, ca serait sympa, merci!

Just to finish on the idea, even if I used the entire HIRES mode, that would only be for the 240x200 area of the screen, and then I would have the last 24 lines using the standard 6x8 characters over 3 lines of text, which would require implementing a virtual canvas like in the Kong mini-game

I realized that some of you may not actually know that what I'm doing with the Physical Edition of Encounter is actually an homage to some of the 80s games that had physical clues in the boxes.

(In these they acted also as a kind of protection, required to finish the game)

From what I see, you still need to have a larger resolution to be able to represent these "37 characters and 5 tone marks".

I know Russian is doable because it requires less details, and Greek may be doable as well for the same reasons.

I tried to translate the store page though, but since I don't understand Chinese I had to use automated translation, and I have no idea how good or bad it is!

Somebody suggested that I make a Chinese version of Encounter because that's where the market is. Unfortunately it is technically 100% impossible.

The Oric characters use a 6x8 pixel matrix which is wayyyy too small to represent this type of characters!⤵️

I'm having fun!

Obviously there's 0% chance to win anything, but now at least I know how the process of entering this type of event works.

I even managed to get the game accepted for the "Detective Fest 2026" event 🕵️

(And yes, Encounter "Stands Out" with its big pixels)

I need to double check, but basically that's a run down of the raw material cost for the physical edition of "Encounter", not counting the tools, time spent, and the bazillion of test prints and experimentation. 🙃

If only it was actually working.

I'm kind of cursed with red and black phones, they all have issues when I receive them!

I wish I could find a service manual, but doubtful I can find one.

Thank to my players I now have a "User Score" on Metacritic.

I unfortunately can't have a Metascore because no "serious" publication has reviewed the game.

Somebody suggested that I should use my credentials, like "Ex developer from Adeline Software, Eden Game and Funcom" ⤵️

This is my release candidate for the Encounter manual, I did my best in term of proof reading, but I'm not a native English speaker so most probably it contains weird sounding sentences, so if anyone feels like doing a quick check, would be awesome!🙏

My experience in putting Encounter in reverse-sale so it's twice as expensive as it was before did not result in any sales (not surprised), but what's weird is that the day I did that I got a couple sales on Steam, not sure if that's related though, just interesting 😅

Thanks to all the suggestions. I did not have the right stuff to use paint, so I used a combination of other things, including the tea/coffee, skuff marks, sanding, putting stickers (after all Ford Prefect is a traveler, so he personalized his own guide)
Good enough for tomorrow!

What would be the easiest way to "age" a 3d printed object, in this case to make it look like it's been through quite a few adventures, fell down, got scratched, drenched in Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. etc...

(It's standard PLA)
October 29, 2025 at 6:26 PM
I wonder how many of the players actually played the minigame inside Encounter, and if they did, which score did they manage to reach in Game A and Game B modes?🤔
October 29, 2025 at 9:02 AM
The nice thing with my 28" 3:2 aspect ratio screen is that I can edit the user manual in dual-page mode comfortably. 🎉

Now if only I was good at the whole "write a manual" thing, at least I can't blame the equipment! 😅
