In case of interest, I write about the political economy of gestational labor (i.e., the class relation undergirding evil cases like venture capitalist Cindy Bi's prosecution of her hired surrogate over stillbirth) in Full Surrogacy Now [https://www.versobooks.com/products/711-full-surrogacy-now] >
I know I already posted this, but this story by Emi Nietfeld is the absolute most bonkers, rage-inducing thing I’ve read in a while (and a substantial part of my job is to read bonkers, rage-inducing shit every day) www.wired.com/story/the-ba...
The Baby Died. Whose Fault Is It?
When her son died in utero, a venture capitalist went to extremes to punish her surrogate.

This kind of travesty is made possible through extremely lax homeschool laws, which allow abuse parents like these to disappear their kids and cut off their access to any official or professional who could spot a problem and intervene.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz after touring "Alligator Alcatraz": "These detainees are living in cages. The pictures you've seen don't do it just. They are essentially packed into cages. 34 detainees per cage...they get their drinking water & they brush their teeth where they poop, in the same unit"

The only way to protect children is for them to have the freest possible access to information (which includes the *dangerous* stuff), the best possible education on how to use that information and the freedom to act on that information themselves. This is exhaustively proven by abuse research.

This Candy Basslet (Liopropoma carmabi)—which I photographed her in the Steinhart Aquarium’s Twilight Zone exhibit—is a vivid reminder of the hidden beauty thriving in mesophotic reefs. Rarely seen, but impossible to forget. 🌊🔦 #TwilightZoneExhibit #HiddenDepths

At the DeSantis Everglades detention camp, people with green cards are being held in terrible conditions, with maggots in the food, the lights kept on 24 hours a day, and delayed access to medicine.

One guy had his Bible taken and was told "here there is no right to religion."

I think it should be noted that homeschooling is the privatization and monoplization of care, with all the issues that entails. It's taking the social childcare provided by school systems and privatizing and monopolizing it in the hands of the family units.

People now have "anti-child" and "anti-kid" in their bios. We are cooked. You can't...you can't live with that kind of hate and stay a person. That's the kind of impersonal hate fascism thrives on. The hell is wrong with people.
