This is a real issue in child welfare as well. I will never forget an 11-year-old client who told the judge she had been raped when she entered foster care (because that is what it felt like to her) & the judge disregarded her entire experience and viewed her as a liar thereafter.

This is curious as the class action lawsuit has to do with the fact that 72% of boys 12-17 were being sent OUTSIDE the state to for-profit facilities paying up to $900 per day where they experienced abuse and neglect.
