Today, we mourn the loss of a friend, Helen Rucker. Her leadership shaped Monterey County for generations. As a teacher, librarian, and tireless community activist, she expanded access to education and opened doors for countless young people. Our community is stronger because she was here.

I had the chance to speak with students at Morro Bay High School about the State Legislature and how their voices shape the future of our communities. Their curiosity, thoughtfulness and passion were inspiring.
