I hear what you’re saying, but I think they are equally unwilling to engage with any art. I am sure there are racist responses, but I can’t assume someone is racist simply because they didn’t like it or said it was boring or it went over their heads.

Is it the reliance on the machines that eliminates the need for live musicians? I love watching people play instruments live. That’s a shame.

I don’t need to tell you anything. I asked OP why she’s accusing her mom of racism for needing her daughter to explain the layers of the art her daughter admits is complex. You’re not using the phrase “begs the question” correftly, by the way.

And I’m saying that people have many reasons for not wanting to engage with art when they tuned in for a fun, superficially entertaining football game. It’s not known for being a beacon of high art and its fanbase isn’t known for being high art connoisseurs. That doesn’t mean they are racist.

For sure, but what if they didn’t feel repulsion, just boredom and checked out because they couldn’t understand it? Or irritation when they understood it was deep and they only wanted a fun football game? Those things aren’t racist.
