I never believed in the 'tortured' artist trope. Cause it's just not true. Miserable people don't make good art. But I also don't think spoiled people do either. When you're overcomforted, overloved, it's the same thing in reverse. You can't make good art without want.

Programming wise the best thing I have found LLMs for is API reference. When I use something like Claude and it responds with large "scalable" solutions I'm like whoa there cowboy (A) that is useless for my implementation and (B) now I have 100x more stuff to read through. Anyways it's not god etc

Solution to automation failure: make the AI sound like Goofy. Like "Gwarsh I think you should ____ huhyuck". Works especially well for LLMs. Could also be great for self driving cars, having the little "Goofy stepping on a nail hohohohoooo" sound when it decides to turn left

I used to think "if only engineers had to take more humanities maybe then there would be more empathy", it's a position I've totally reversed my stance on over the years. Yeah I still think every1 should do some humanities, but for engs I think the move is not making them do 6 courses a term
Ethics classes can teach the content of various theories, and thereby impart knowledge and skills which are useful to ethical cognition. But they can't make someone care, they can't make someone good. It's a fundamental mistake re what university education can or should do to hope they'll do that.

The thing about Two State Solution is there must be two states for the two state solution. One of the states would be Israel and the other would be Palestine (2 states). So you must necessarily support Palestinian statehood. People who can't say this outright don't actually want a 2 state solution

In Mother 3 you fight fascists as one of the main storylines. When I first played it this aspect felt unremarkable, sort of like fighting storm troopers. But today this feels kinda radical in a way that is sad to accept. If Nintendo released this game today I'm sure it would've been "political"

I used to use Wetransfer all the time to send big files, especially in early 2010s when it was actually kinda non-trivial to send large files online (I remember being like "it's 2012 why is this so hard?!"). Anyways good bye forever WeTransfer lol not the move
