At this month's City Council meeting, I asked the Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, and Families what the Council is doing to implement trauma-informed practice after my motion calling for it was passed two years ago.

At the November City Council meeting debate on public transport and the Midland Rail Hub, I spoke about the need for the Bordesley Chords project to allow for more services, cleaner air, and better connectivity in my community and across Birmingham, as well as a train station at Balsall Heath.

I was interviewed while there (end of the video in the article).
The police did a good job of dealing with people who, sadly, were aggressive and directly threatened several people, despite claiming otherwise. They do not represent Stirchley or our city.

Today, Stirchley residents put on a family event, with music and chalk for kids, to show we can celebrate our city. The community came together to say we will not allow our nations' flags to be used to divide us or intimidate our neighbours.
I'm incredibly proud to be born and raised in Stirchley ❤️‍🔥

Just gonna state for the record that this is appalling, and the tell it's rooted in bigotry rather than women's safety is that it risks preventing trans men - a group assigned female at birth - from accessing using toilets. It's an unworkable bloody mess, and those pushing it should be ashamed.

After meeting with Birmingham City Council and Transport for West Midlands, this is all possible if we prove the demand to bus companies. The best way to do that is to sign the petition.

This week marks the first anniversary of Birmingham City Council declaring a road safety emergency. Thank you to @betterstreetsforbirmingham.org for organising this moment of reflection in memory of the 23 people who have been killed on Birmingham's roads since the declaration.

My heart is broken by the news that Councillor Kerry Jenkins passed away this morning. I can only imagine how devastated her family are, and I'm thinking of them now. She was an irrepressible force of nature who used her time on earth putting everyone else first.

It was a pleasure to speak at the first birthday party for Dawberry Corner.
For years it was a fenced-off waste, full of flytipped rubbish and weeds. Thanks to the tireless work of Suze at @ourscenecic.bsky.social and the community, this space has been transformed into a community garden oasis. 💚

Today the Planning Committee attended a site visit of the Stirchley co-operative development. It was a pleasure to have helped organise this and for the committee to see how we can deliver homes for communities that are led by the community.

I'm so proud that today Birmingham City Council announced Councillor Zafar Iqbal as the next Lord Mayor of Birmingham.
He's devoted his life to public service and his community and I'm sure will make our city proud as he represents us in the new civic year this May.

I went to California for Christmas and discovered that, in Oakland, they have 15 miles per hour speed limits in this residential area. And some people can't cope at the idea of 20 being a limit... Wild.
