5 of my characters are gandy dancers (railroad track maintainers). They're interesting, smart guys. When the railroad cuts their pay below minimum wage, their community helps them organize a strike.

Q: What do you find disappointing about intellectuals?
A: For me, it's that many of them are classists with no understanding of working class culture, history, unions, and achievements. They view low-wage workers as “low-information,” and “unskilled.” They are neither!
