🚨 New Paper! Led by PhD alum Dr. Marissa Webber & co-authored by undergrad alum Lillian Mei, we looked at how Nature-Based Solutions can help increase climate resilience for infrastructure near rivers, & we talked with State DOT leaders about the barriers for deployment. doi.org/10.1038/s429...

I was a grad student at CMU when Randy gave his Last Lecture. I’ve been trying to live my life as a teacher like Randy ever since.
For those who don't know Randy Pausch, he was a computer scientist who gave "The Last Lecture" at CMU when he had terminal pancreatic cancer. Lots of inspiration and life lesson.
Worth the time to give it a watch (whether or not you have done so in the past.

“The village's 300 inhabitants had to leave their homes on 19 May after geologists monitoring the area warned that the glacier appeared unstable.” Unimaginable to consider what could have happened without public investments in hazard monitoring and prediction.

Our new study, led by Lilian Schuster, simulates temperature "overshoot" scenarios and reveals that any increase above 1.5 degC has irreversible impacts on glacier mass loss, sea-level rise, and water resources for the centuries. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Irreversible glacier change and trough water for centuries after overshooting 1.5 °C - Nature Climate Change
How mountain glaciers will react to temporarily overshooting 1.5 °C of warming is poorly understood. Here the authors show irreversible global glacier loss for centuries after overshoot, implying long...
