This is just pure spite. It has sod all to do with encouraging peace and saving lives. This will in fact cost and endanger many more Ukrainian lives.

Shame on Trump.

Obviously wonderful to see these two appalling individuals falling out.

But this won't be the end of Musk's interest in UK politics.

Will he instead court Kemi Badenoch? Will she lurch the Tories further right to appeal to his wallet?

One of the things you are taught at lawyer school is not to try and persuade your opponent: they are professionally unpersuadable.

There's a lesson there for Labour, which will learn the hard way that there's no version of Musk which wants what it does (or should), however accommodating we are.
January 4, 2025 at 1:47 PM
It's patently obvious that Musk sees this as one big political game, and will exploit any issue (goddamn distastefully in this instance) to serve his purpose.

Labour should ditch the niceties and show him that our democracy is not to be played with.

'Unforseen circumstances' are exactly that - things we don't know right now.

After the pandemic we've all been through, who on earth thinks it's sensible for the PM to rule out any further tax rises, under *any* circumstances, for the sake of popularity?

The descent in US political standards plumbs yet further.
NEW: House Republicans have voted to block the release of an Ethics Committee report into sexual misconduct and illicit drug use allgations against Matt Gaetz, Trump’s highly controversial pick for Attorney General.

Senators have said they want it before confirmation.
November 20, 2024 at 11:26 PM
There's a very slow but steady osmosis of the Trump brand of shameless, amoral politicking from the US, and it's crucial that we resist it at the earliest opportunities if we all agree that our politicians and politics need to be held accountable to the highest standards.

Twitter was an echo chamber in its early days, and Bluesky feels much the same. The point is that this platform facilitates a more constructive dialogue, which doesn't feel weighted either way. Keep that ethos at its core, and people from across the spectrum will choose Bluesky over Musk's X.

It's done. Bye bye, X!

Lots of commentary about people deserting X and retreating to a liberal bubble.

I'm not here to escape from right-wing view points - I think Bluesky should flourish with viewpoints from across the spectrum.

This has always, *always* been part of the Tories' ideology. Cut public spending for a smaller state - painted as a lesser "burden" on "the taxpayer" (as if the taxpayer and those needing public services are exclusive) - and let charity pick up the burden.

This is the result.
