And Kenny Lofton not being on the ballot is a whiff, too. Replace Mattingly and Valenzuela with Whitaker and Lofton and you have a much better list of players who really should be considered and would have a decent chance at being elected.

Murphy? I’d vote for him, but the second half of his career was meh. Sheff should be in, but I wonder if him playing for so many teams might hurt him. I think his teammates liked him, though, so maybe the committee will vote for him?

I’ll be surprised if anyone, other than Fernando, gets in. Bonds and Clemens have the steroids controversy. Delgado was really good, but was he as good as McGriff? Probably not. Kent should, but I suspect his poor D reputation will keep him out. Mattingly? Nope — injuries sapped his later years.
