Another important aspect of this stock character is that she is ALWAYS right - if she tells someone they're being a stubborn jackass who needs to get over themselves, it's guaranteed to be true and important for that character's growth.

Main example coming to mind is Mrs. Gruner from Lars and the Real Girl. Gail the therapist on The Last Of Us might qualify, but not sure her characterization is primarily based on being old. But she overlaps heavily with this stock character.
