....ah, you found some bugs not worth your time. Huge congrats on the PhD. Deep admiration.

Wonderful! I had no idea that was happening and I saw it live. What a privilege. I'm v. grateful for your skeet. Ta.

That was fab. Gosh, and the way he talks here sounds very Rick Sanchez.

It’s the same kind of thinking a racist has – that external appearance determines identity. Offensive.

Fab. RII, my favorite Shakey. 'Of comfort no man speak' (III.ii) is for me when S. goes from being OK to being wonderful.

He's such a gibbering dolt

Yes, a pleasing oddness to the night time pic. Though at first glance I thought it was a representation of Sweep (Sooty and Sweep).

You gave us more of Mickey's Monkey Spunk Moped. Hurrah! I now have my fingers crossed for the return of Biscuits Alive. Surely they are due soon?

That was lovely, thank you for sharing - 😀

You just gotta remember which is your game hand.

Oooh, Peleg - there's even more emotional Americana impact, and perhaps Bildad will be along soon.

What a shame – I do love this opera. I’ve watched the 2009 Benini/Brownlee/Garanča version on DVD a dozen times – it’s an absolute delight. Glad you found some positives in your review, though.

My thoughts entirely. Hawley's TV series Fargo, just wonderful. I'm enjoying Alien Earth plenty.

I enjoyed your substack about this and had my fingers crossed. As you say, such utter cowardice. Ugh.

Glad to hear that. You tweet wonderfully. Such aperçus. I enjoyed your Mann podcast. Reckon you’ll make a cracking novelist. Hope to see you published soon.

You've disappeared from X - or at least I get the message '@zhuphilia no longer exists.' I hope you're ok?

Right; and there was something in the spoken version that heightened the humour - I felt Conrad was drawing attention to how preposterous British 'stiff upper lip' culture is - the emotional repression (even dishonesty) - the social codes etc. Ah, now I have a mood to read Under Western Eyes again.

I just read Klara and the Sun a week ago. It's really stayed with me. Just wonderful, wonderful. And what an emotional punch! Oof.

Conrad is one of my favourites. I re-read him every few years. But for a change last year I listened to Lord Jim (audiobook). It occurred to me the novel is not (as I had always felt when reading it) a romance/tragedy/drama but in fact a comedy/satire.

I can see I have a lot more reading to do. And I shall do it.

I shall think on it some more. Sodha writes, “none of this takes away from trans people’s existing rights, and are scaremongering and infantilising trans people as victims” and at present I feel she supports that contention fairly well. But as stated I remain wholly open to changing my mind.

Yeah, see, this is my problem. My baseline is, “listen to what women say,” and I know you to be a careful thinker. So now I am stuck again. Hum.
