Something I've noticed on the other site: There are so few left wing people to argue with that the right is beginning to show cracks.

FINALLY finished Phantom Menace novelization. Last three chapters took like three weeks... Would not recommend.

We get a bit more insight into Anakin's life on Tattooine, and I think the handmaiden decoy thread is executed better than in the movie. A lot more kid-romance between Ani and Padme.

Work has gotten stressful, so instead of my regular fantasy, I'm delving into nonfiction alongside comics

Inspired by the movie, some of my favorite panels from All Star #Superman, which inspired the movie

So this book is bad. DNF bad.

It's book #5, and maybe some of the problematic stuff wasn't so bad in the 90s. But I'm not going to read four other books for one that's just okay.

Maybe it's a naming convention in the series, but the titular character is the antagonist. He gets a good 20 page intro
Looks like it's going to be Samurai Wizard! Spellpunk Tokyo murder mystery with sick cover art. 200 pages, should be a quick enough read.

Looks pretty good, dramatic, optimistic, and that soundtrack 🔥

But it's sad that The Thing has to be this tragic figure instead of the fun loving Ben Grimm who admittedly does have his depressing moments.

The first ~20 chapters are a bit of a grind, but it picks up when we meet the Gray Wizard.

One problem Lerris faces is that he's frequently bored, and it's a first person narrative, and Modesitt is good, so you feel it.

really wish I wouldve read it when I was younger.

Finally finished this today, 9/10 would recommend.

It's "about" Vimes tumbling back in time, but it's really about the role of police during civil unrest and the importance of due process.

As always, Prachett touches on a bunch of other things.

Just finished Fifth Elephant! Nothing breaks a reading slump like Discworld!

The tone and vibe has shifted so much from the earlier Watch novels I fell in love with, but Prachett is always a worthwhile.

He makes so many valid points so succinctly, none of them really get to be very deep.

I think #thunderbolts is so good because it's the first marvel in a while that actually feels like a comic book. A bunch of B and D tier characters from various projects that actually work.

Oh no, I'm completely unfocused on any one book and started another one.

Glad I didn't read Cugel's Saga earlier, because Twango's business model seems more relevant than ever. I remember him being kind of a dick and a fool, but his rejection of Flutic's servitude is great.

Finished book one of Bane of the Black Sword and just about everything I thought would happen for the whole book already has.

Great end quote:
"He died," Elric's voice was strained"
"How?" she asked
"Because like all merchants," Elric answered, "the bargained too hard"

Silmarillian left me in a bit of a reading slump until the last few days...

Crawling through Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin, and I think his story in general is just not interesting until he Ulmo at Vinyamar.

Getting through Bane of the Black Sword as well, but no short stories for now #booksky

Finished 'Quenta Silmarillian' the other night.

It's not as prohibitively complex as I was led to believe, and that's a good thing.

Only struggle was getting through the descriptions of maps and family trees.

Otherwise, the early chapters drag a but, greatness in the night, then drops off 📚🪐

I really expected Fëanor to be the worst, but it's definitely Celegorm. Maedhros can feel bad all he wants, but you can't forgive him for helping kill Dior Thingol's heir

Just finished!

The detailed, brutal, horrific world is just masterfully built, but the characters act like they're in a YA book causing tonal whiplash.

I know they are in a YA book, but the world is built on colonization, slavery, patriarchy, and everything that goes with 1/

My next chapter-a-day book to go with Silmarillian and Conan: Elvenbane byAndre Norton/Mercedes Lackey

I forgot how brutal elven society is in this but it's sort of waived off to focus on the ennui of elven maidens.

I dont love starting w the new characters POV, but giving it a chance

Sweetie we don't have time for this, there's only forty pages to set the next book up!
