I figured out my metric for “stupid.” It’s synonymous with belief. Belief is simply a way of saying there’s a topic I’ve decided to stop thinking about. Therefore, no matter how cognitively capable I may be, I am definitively stupid in relation to any topic I have a belief about.

Letting go of self,
Letting go of place and time —

Before any technique, there is a choice: to understand or to act. The most common failures in therapy happen when we choose to act without first understanding.

I’ve been playing with this idea for a couple of days and it’s lovely
I sometimes do a little technique where I imagine that I've died and that before I go on to whatever comes next, I get to go back and re-live a random moment of my life. Not to change anything, but just to see what it was like.

And it's this moment.

🙏 🙂
Good Morning my friends, and never forget the beauty of this truth:

Every moment can be practice.
And if you see your entire life as practice, you will always be okay.

Put your desk in the corner and every time you sit down there to write, remind yourself why it isn’t in the middle of the room. Life isn’t a support system for art; it’s the other way around. -Stephen King, On Writing.

Today, I'll simply shovel the snow, not in hopes of walking the path tomorrow, but just to get outside and breathe the cold air today.

Even harder to accept is that it's often our demons that drive the creative impulse. Artistic beauty is a transcendence of self.

When it gets dark at 4pm, I:

1) Collapse into a viscous blob by 4:30
2) Utter the chant & quaff the dark elixir
3) Emerge as a creature of the night, remaining in a depraved and manic state until the sun rises at 4am

I'm at a point in my life where I'm just not willing to grant an audience to anyone who's not interested in hearing what I have to say.

The Diderot Effect: obtaining a new possession often creates a spiral of consumption which leads you to acquire more new things. As a result, we end up buying things that our previous selves never needed to feel happy or fulfilled.
