I hope that you’ll come out and support our vote centers and attend public. Come next week, details below!

Some worry about costs, but the cost of operation go down over time and we have ample budget to make the capital improvement this year if the election board agrees.

Vote anywhere centers are a win-win for bipartisanship and Civic engagement.

Over 60 counties in Indiana have gone this way and have enjoyed both efficiencies and cost savings in helping voters vote

Vote centers are a win-win. On election day it means you can vote at any polling location in the county – on the way home from work or getting groceries or dropping kids off at school. You don’t have to rush home to your precinct.

Two years later, after the hard work of a bipartisan committee, we now have a plan for review and adoption by our community

Vote centers are a win-win, and a bipartisan approach to empowering everybody to vote.

Vote centers create efficiency and bring cost down overtime. Over 60 counties in Indiana have already gone to this model, but here in Monroe county it was caught up in politics for too long.

Vote centers mean that you can vote anywhere in the county on election day. You don’t need to run home to your precinct or try to get in before work or after work. If you’re near polling location on election day you can vote there.

Nearly 2 years later, and with the hard work of a bipartisan committee, we now have a draft plan for presentation and public comment

Put another way, when you move the county seat 3.9 miles up the road after 207 years, you better have a plan for all the development that’s gonna happen around the courts and justice system. Needless to say there’s a lot more work to do here.

That’s a lot of concrete for a place that our 2012 comp plan and urbanizing plan for the county wants to see as a “town center” with walkablity, mixed use, and far better planning

As of now, I know several colleagues want to talk about this in more detail as the costs and requirements seem to be out of scope. For example, there’s a proposed parking lot that is at least the size of a Walmart parking lot

This is of course more than the bond that my colleagues approved in the fall, and seems to lack many of the requirements that the community expects to see for wraparound service, and inclusion of infrastructure that we thought moving to North park would alleviate.

Lastly, the council and commission got a briefing from the jail contractors for the new justice center. I am very concerned about the uptick in cost estimates since my election in November. What would’ve been a $47 million facility in 2008 – when the ACLU weighed in pass now to 237 million.

Fourth, much has been said about the previous councils vote on our tax levy in the next fiscal year and while this happened before my time, I am neck deep in the spreadsheet to understand how we do not request our proposed levy. But the good news is the county has incredibly healthy reserves.

Third, the county council reviewed the forecast for our fiscal health and there’s no bones – it looks grim. Whether Mike Braun’s Hoosier hurting tax cuts, fed uncertainty, and our own local forecast I am happy my colleagues are considering a strategic pause in spending until we get a handle on it

Secondly, during County Council this week, an incident that turned out to be a protest happened at nearby City Hall. I shared my thoughts with the local media on how we stay aware of emerging situations. While this wasn’t an active shooter there’s a learning opportunity about laws awareness & safety
Armed protester at Bloomington city hall prompts concerns about street homelessness, comms protocols, security
Late Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 25), on the bricked plaza in front of Bloomington’s city hall, a person with an AR-15-style rifle was passing out flyers for the Rainbow Panther Party with a call to “comb...

First, I want extend my condolences to the friends and family of the passing of an officer at the Bloomington Police Department. As our law-enforcement community, friends, and neighbors mourn, I keep them all in my thoughts.
