Any ideas what this bird is, seen at Minsmere RSPB at the beginning of the month? At the time I thought it looked like a sandpiper, still unsure what kind or if it is something completely different, sadly very distant and poor pictures!

I was fortunate that it swam very close. The image is about ~25% of a 45MP capture, giving PhotoShop lots of pixels to clean it up. (Although it doesn't look too bad uncropped with no noise reduction or sharpening.)

Final surprise from Scotland (for today) was a distant Hen harrier (Circus cyaneus) hunting over a grouse moor. We watched it for many minutes, but it never came very close. Hopefully it didn't think we were there to persicute it.

Bohemian waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus) were a surprising find in Scotland. The only ones I have seen this year. We stopped to look over Cromarty Firth for grebes and ducks when they flew out of a tree to drink from a puddle before returning to eat.

That's nothing! This image of 4 Short-eared owls was taken over half an hour after sunset (waited ages for them to do something), 800mm lens handheld @ 1/4 sec, f/11, ISO 51200! It is not brilliant, just amazing it could capture anything when I needed a torch to find my way back to the car 😀
