As a completely ignorant, though sometimes published, writer, what is this? This is the first year I'm seeing people do this. Is it a sort of generic appeal to be considered for whatever award people on here might be in charge of selecting?

I feel like "kitchen table issues" has long been used by bad faith actors as code for "normal people are too anxious about how terrible things are to care about the civil rights of others," which is deeply psychotic in a uniquely American way.
