This first part/segment covers everything from the last few months of 1989, while the second part next week will cover the continuing story into 1990 as well as Tully's flirtations with WCW in 1993 and 1994. Topics of discussion include: Tully and Arn, the reigning WWF Tag Team Champions as the Brain Busters, giving their notices, claiming that it was to pursue an opportunity in Japan even though that obviously wasn't true. Is Jack Petrik's refusal to open up the WCW budget for top WWF guys proof that Vince McMahon really made a phone call to Ted Turner in early 1989 begging him to avoid bidding wars so they could artificially hold down wrestler pay? Reports of cash flow issues in the WWF stemming from the "No Holds Barred" and Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Donny Lalonde losses hitting the Titan Sports books, leading to decreasing payoffs, cuts to the Survivor Series '89 card, and WWF talent breaking their brainwashing to seriously consider the stories of big contracts in WCW. Vince reneging on his promise to give Arn and Tully a storyline out on commentary when their tag title loss aired on TV. Tully, already on his way out, getting fired a few weeks before Survivor Series. Did he try to stage a locker room walkout? Was he trying to rally wrestlers to join him and Arn in WCW? Was his failed drug test for cocaine the actual reason, or was it just a nice excuse for the newsletters that they knew would mess with his WCW offer? Some reminders of how big a pro wrestling star Tully Blanchard was in the '80s before his career suddenly dried up at the end of 1989/beginning of 1990. Did the WWF really edit together two different matches to form the Rockers vs. Brain Busters 2/3 falls match on Saturday Night's Main Event? Tully's alleged marketing job with Coca-Cola. Dave Meltzer's personal thoughts on how the drug issue was being leverage to mess with Tully personally, especially as someone who had no reputation for working while intoxicated.

Q: Is there anybody that you would like to work with at this stage of your career that you haven't gotten the chance to work with? CANDIDO: Just looking at the immediate future for guys there's a legitimate possibility with? Of course, if you want to go crazy, I'm a huge Kurt Angle mark, so that would be great. I got chopped by Ric Flair in a battle royal a few times. Working with him would be the ultimate. I don't know the immediate possibilities of any of that happening. But right now on the indie circuit, I got to do a deal with Kruel, with A. J. Styles, Al Snow and I have been tearing it down. Getting to work with guys like Dusty Rhodes and Jerry Lawler, where they're almost talking to me like I'm on their level. Just tonight (Candido & Steve Stone vs. Dusty Rhodes & Ian Rotten), Dusty got in there and said, "Chris, start with me. We'll do our shit." I mean I have shit with Dusty Rhodes now. And the only thing we came up with in the back was just one little spot that was in the finish. After the match, Dusty Rhodes was sitting there talking to me. He said, "Chris. you're one intelligent, intelligent man." First of all, I've never heard those words before in my life and hearing them from somebody like Dusty Rhodes means a lot. But working down here doing the stuff for Ian, I would like to work with Chad Collyer. He and I could have a helluva lot of fun. CM Punk and I had a good time with the comedy ridiculousness the other night, but I would like to have a real match with him. But all the guys down here who I don't really know that well that I'm just becoming friends with, like Samoa Joe and those guys, they kind of work with the same people that work like them. I think me being different, we could do something different and really tear it down.

O’Neil said there were a lot of “scare tactics” and “scare verbiage” when he went to Saudi Arabia the first time for WWE, but he saw a group of kids playing on the beach at 1 a.m. one night. When he asked his driver the next morning if people in Saudi Arabia were worried about that, the driver said no because there would be an automatic death sentence if the kids were sexually assaulted, beaten, kidnapped, or brutalized.
