Third problem, and to me this is the crux: Labour is very unlikely to win without getting some voters back over from the right. The right block is bigger than the left at current polling averages. Voters are prepared to be tactical, and if both sides vote efficiently, the right wins.

If I have a choice -- one one side, middle-aged academic author with grand 3-volume tome on How to Create the Perfect World (I get two or three of these *a week*); on the other side, someone who boosted heat pump uptake in midsized NYC multifamily buildings by 17% -- I choose the latter every time.

I agree. That’s why the experimentation is at a local level, where there’s less attention. Momentum & legitimacy may grow from there.

(FWIW does feel that big chunk of political & media opinion rejects nearly anything that doesn’t fit both ‘current main parties rubbish *&* ‘people like Reform’.)

More background:

'Assemblies are spaces for listening, & breaking down barriers. Give people 5 minutes, & we’ll likely find out we have more in common... Give us a few weekends...we’ll be able to disagree with respect and dignity.'

Two new absurd interventions in the world this week: a climate comedy novel, and a series of dialogues on assemblies.

There's a lot of experimentation happening at local level. I was involved in a series of roundtables w/ practitioners of local participatory democracy last year.

Qs covered include:
-When use which of different types of assemblies?
-Can they be neutral?
-Who sets the agenda?
