Thrilled to invite you to participate in the Critical Quantitative Methods Work Week, July 21-25th, 2025 (1:00 pm AST-4:00 pm AST), a dynamic, virtual, and zero-fee event designed to foster collaboration and advance the field of Critical Quantitative Methods.

Was wonderful seeing friends and colleagues at this year's CREA Conference. Spent the week engaged in workshops, seminars, and presentations. Met many new colleagues and heard from others about their approach to conducting culturally responsive evaluation and assessment.

I am organizing an online seminar! With an aim of advancing the field of Critical Quantitative Methods, the Critical Quantitative Methods Work Week will be a virtual meeting space for faculty, students, and practitioners. The title is offered as an homage to the 1923 Erste Marxistische Arbeitswoche.

With culturally specific assessment formally defined, I situate my work on the development of such assessments within an overarching environmental space I named the disjuncture response dialectic (Sul, 2021). Under this framework,

Culturally specific assessment is defined as assessment that: (1) supports the (academic) development of (people); (2) is inclusive of a willingness to nurture and support cultural competence; (3) aims to support the development of a sociopolitical or critical consciousness within students;

In quantitative educational research studies, the presence of measurement disjuncture leads to an increase in the Type II error rate. In manners that are both qualitative and quantitative, measurement disjuncture negatively affects the establishment of measurement validity.

Educational research findings often rely on evidence obtained through the use of standardized assessment instruments constructed within a particular worldview.
