Significant update on Trace Evidence! We've completed a full revision pass on the manuscript! Now to let it sit for a few days so we can look on it with fresh eyes, then send it back to the editor for another pass! It's not the finish line, but it's another big step towards it!

Got my copy of "A Mystery Writer's Guide to Getting Published" from ReboundPress.com, which was written by my editor, Peggy Blair, so that I can become much better at editing my own book before we publish later this year. It is FULL of useful info for any writer, including self-publishing tips!

I've been quiet for a while because I've been pushing hard to finish a set of revisions on Trace Evidence so we can hit that fall release date! Just completed that tonight! Not the last set of revisions, but we're closer than ever and I love what I'm creating! I hope you all will too!

Big day. First pass of edits and rewrites complete. Technically, it's a completed first manuscript. Whatever happens from now on, I wrote a book. Well, the bulk part of writing a book, anyway. Now for the other parts.

Top 25 RPGs is the thing to do, apparently, and I even went hard mode and did 1 per franchise. I mean, otherwise like 10 slots get filled Final Fantasy and Persona, and we learn nothing new. Also we stretched the definition of RPG a little, but so do most games these days!

What the hell, I'm lonely and depressed but I've made great editing progress this week so have a new excerpt from an early chapter of "At The End of the World, A Cooper Hart Novel", where our protagonist ponders the vagaries of forests. It makes sense, I promise.

I didn't really expect to get 5 anyway, but I'm a nice guy, so now you all get to meet Shari.
Shari was a lot of things that I wasn't: cheerful, energetic, outgoing, and nearly always in motion. Plus, she loved to talk to everyone about everything. Going anywhere with Shari meant that you were part of an ongoing conversation with pretty much every man, woman, child, and occasionally even animal that you met along the way. Shari also remembered things about people, all sorts of details that they'd probably forgotten even mentioning in conversation, in a way that was uncanny and, in my line of work, incredibly useful. Back when I'd first moved into the neighbourhood and set up shop, I'd been pointed in Shari's direction while I was attempting tracking down some weird occult artifacts for a customer. Somehow, in the course of one brief meeting, the content of which was largely about Mayan ceremonial daggers, she'd fully insinuated herself into my life going forward. It was a mixed blessing, because while she was fun and knowledgeable and a great person overall, the force of Shari's personality, especially when you're as closed-off and introverted as I am, was, in a word, overwhelming. The reason why I'd been sent to Shari in the first place was because she ran a local store that traded in “curiosities”, which the common person would probably dismiss under the banner of “weird cult garbage”, or maybe “hippie crap”, depending on their perspective1. Healing crystals, tarot cards, books on Wicca or herbalism, or ancient myth (many of them recovered from the Lower City by a dashing local investigator), if it had a supposed connection to the mystic, Shari knew at least something about it and, more than likely, you could find it in her store. However, I've never seen a more unlikely person to run a store specializing in the occult and mysterious, as Shari somehow managed to eschew both the dark, brooding Goth stereotype and the vapid, airy “spiritualist” persona and instead, was something quite different than anyone would expect.
