Precisely. Humans are incredibly resourceful when they feel they need to do something. All you can adjust is how they choose to do that something, rather than believing you can stop them doing it full stop

I’m happy with that approach; arguably it was out excessively favoured atance which may have encouraged a sense of entitlement in some minds that the EU would always roll over in the face of our demands.

No it is not. Get a bit irritated when grievance (even justified grievance) gets in the way of making constructive progress. And I am extremely pro EU.
