Roman Catholic. Chicagoan. Vincentian. Outcast. Hopeless Cubs and Bears fan.
The USCCB cozied up to right wing money which allowed space for Homan to enact his policy and now his heretical pushback. Parishes must teach and preach CST. Human dignity and rights, compassion, care, community and kinship is how we continue as church, and transform as a Eucharistic people.

Another note to Vincentians from our National President in which he doubles on down on his assessment that the current crisis is a bipartisan moral failure. I have attached my reply.

More examples of the so called "bipartisan moral failure"? Trump appeals court order to fund SNAP; DOGE's cut of US AID results in the death of 600,000; extrajudicial killings on the high seas; migrants and homeless disappearing without due process.

As a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul I objected to National President John Berry's statement on the government shutdown and withholding SNAP as "bipartisan moral failure". I replied, but 6 days later my comment is awaiting moderation. Why? ssvpusa.org/uncategorize...

While Catholics (brown ones still count?) are being taken off our streets with force and without due process and people are being tear gassed for simply being witnesses, we get no condemnation from the USCCB. Ten press releases issued in October; none dealing with the mistreatment of migrants.

From this morning's psalm: The Lord hears the cry of the Poor. The Lord confronts the evil doers to destroy remembrance of them from the earth. Let us pray for our nation and our sins of violence against migrants, and for killing people without legal justification or due process on the high seas.

This Sunday we wake to see POTUS responding to those resisting racism, hate and cruelty with a literal shit posting. Meanwhile Bishop "Liturgy of Democracy" Barron and Cardinal "Kirk is St. Paul" Dolan remain on DJT's Presidential Commission. Time to resign.

We attended today’s Mass and Pope Leo took a tour in the Popemobile after Mass. He stopped near us and I yelled “Pope Leo we are from Chicago, we love you!“ He smiled and nodded. I took this pic. Pope Leo gives us hope to continue to do God’s work, to take care of the poor and protect the migrant.

Merton to Czeslaw Milosz, September 1959: “The only thing to be regretted without qualification is for a man to adapt perfectly to totalitarian society.”

Still baffled by @jimgaffigan.bsky.social emceeing the Al Smith and yucking it up with Dolan and DJT. Was he feeling like a fraud that evening? A topic not covered in the podcast. Does Gaffigan regret fronting for Dolan who is now a scandal? Does he agree that Charlie Kirk is a modern day St. Paul?

At 7:30 Mass our priest said humility is being grounded in reality and we act as Christ instructs, favoring the poor and forsaken. The priest also chose Eucharistic Prayer for Various Needs IV that asks us to stand as a living witness to truth and freedom, to peace and justice.

From today's @giveusthisdaylp.bsky.social - may we follow Dom Helder and get close to the poor, and form Abrahamic communities to provide hope as we confront White Christian Nationalism and American Fascism.

From the Eucharistic Prayer this morning, "may your Church stand as a living witness to truth and freedom, to peace and justice, that all people may be raised up to a new hope."

On Jan 6 the home grown terrorists were certainly not "backing the blue". Now masked members of federal LE are "arresting" people with no PC at the outset and no due process on the back end. It is illegal, immoral, and unethical. This will take a toll on the mental well being of these officers.

Southside has Leo XIV but the Northside has Leo the Lip.
May 17, 2025 at 12:40 PM
As we approach this weekend Cubs-Sox series remember that before last week the most (in)famous Leo in Chicago baseball belonged to the Cubs. Leo the Lip told us that "nice guys finish last", while Leo XIV will tells us the last will be first. Go Cubs!

Swimming in an outdoor toilet bowl on National Park Service grounds is illegal. No word on when or if RFK will be cited.

Who are the guys standing next to Bob?
May 9, 2025 at 11:51 PM
We can't look away. No identifiers, masking, and no charge/information during arrest is abhorrent. No one knows if there is a warrant or probable cause; due process is absent from the start. PC and Due Process are bedrocks of police legitimacy. We are at the "I was only following orders stage."

If Bill Veeck was alive and the owner of the Rockies he would have acted on this post.

We are all sick and tired of asking where faith leaders stand on immigration, poverty, and climate change. It should be a given that Catholics are in solidarity with migrants, the poor and creation. We ask because some faith leaders cozy up to Trump who attacks the migrant, the poor and creation.

Perhaps Pope Donald will elevate Bishop Liturgy of Democracy. So far he’s been silent on this mockery. Funny how the Paris Olympics sent him into a dither or the drag queen nuns in LA into righteous indignation.
May 4, 2025 at 2:51 AM
Maybe Pope Donald will give him the red hat.
May 4, 2025 at 2:39 AM
Bishop Barron, maybe Pope Donald will make you a Cardinal. Meanwhile our migrant brothers are imprisoned and sent to a foreign gulag without due process and the richest country in the history of mankind cut funding to feed the poorest people in our time.

That sounds great, it is also Flag Day please consider putting the flag of Canada or Ukraine out.
