We used to call this, centuries before my existence, 'plenary indulgences' where the church sold reductions in purgatory time for cash or services rendered, like murdering someone for the church.

Can Trump change the EPA's mandate by fiat? Doesn't he know that, in 2027, Congress will simply make it impossible for any president to undo the law as passed by Congress? What Trump and Republicans are doing is guaranteeing that future laws are protected from presidential meddling.

I am so curious about the reaction of Trump's syncophants when they (hopefully) lose Congress in 2027. Will they hide in shame? Do they have shame? Will they change their stance? Will they agree to toss Trump out of office? What excuses for their behavior will be forthcoming?

What a shame it is that all of the norms we assumed would protect us from radical actors are out of the window now. This will require rewriting many laws and perhaps the Constitution because bad actors are now being put in play by voters. So sad.

New legislation for Congress to take up, if not now, in 2027: "The president is allowed a personal secretary whose salary to be paid by taxpayers. All other employees of the president will be paid by the president."
Perhaps this will solve the Stephen Goebbels Miller problem.

I agree that Noem has no business being anywhere near authority. She should have never been approved by the Senate (shame on Republicans) and she should be unceremoniously fired. My only concern is that an unqualified dummy being replaced by a smarter sociopath.

I am finding it hard to understand why we don't seem to have an effective means to deal with an insane person in the presidency or his brown shirt ICE goons in our cities.

The time has come to stop treating the presidency as a pseudo monarchy. In the end the president is an employee, an employee of the people. Unfortunately, in a republic, which we are, the people's power rests in their elected representatives. Change your representatives.

Is the pursuit of AI just an admission by billionaires that humans are not smart enough to figure things out? Perhaps in their case that is absolutely true. Most of them can't stand the idea that there are actual smart people out there that think they are full of shit.

The ICE agent that shot that poor woman belongs in jail and Vance should be there with him. Vance thinks that when he raises his voice that we should all tremble and just believe him. What an absolute asshole he is. So many people in this administration belong in jail and I hope it comes to that.

How is it that someone in the administration always lets the cat out of the bag by stating the real reason for their actions? Hegseth just outright said that Trump is a hero for getting access to the wealth in Venezuela without shedding any US blood. We can now dismiss the narco-terrorism argument.

The policy of the US going forward should be and needs to be that corporations that decide to operate in other countries do so at their own risk. Not one US dollar and certainly not one US life should be expended to save or protect any company's capital investment. Persons, yes. Capital, no.

So the Epstein bill cleared the Senate with narry a peep. The fear is that the investigations being undertaken will prevent documents being released. On the other hand if they are not prosecuting Republicans won't that open Republicans up for scrutiny?

Of course Trump's idea to send $2K to people is of course a non starter. I have to wonder if Republicans are onboard. The funds given out during the pandemic are what caused the large increase in inflation. This idea lacks the same reasoning.

I fail to see Trump's case against the BBC as having merit. Sure, they edited the piece to make a point about Trump's involvement in the January 6th attempt to overthrow our government. What they didn't do was lie about anything Trump said or inferred in his speech that day.

It just occurred to me why Trump surrounds himself with veritable criminals. He's practicing for his future among criminals. Perhaps he thinks that all of his criminal friends will share a cell block with him. A virtual White House.
