R.I.P. Jules Feiffer, age 95. His THE GREAT COMIC BOOK HEROES (1965) was a very influential book for comics creators of my generation, introducing us to previously unknown heroes and stories and offering Feiffer's firsthand account of the down and dirty days of the Golden Age comic book business.

R.I.P. Jules Feiffer, age 95. His THE GREAT COMIC BOOK HEROES (1965) was a very influential book for comics creators of my generation, introducing us to previously unknown heroes and stories and offering Feiffer's firsthand account of the down and dirty days of the Golden Age comic book business.

My hot take re. The Last American is that it should be discussed in the same conversation as Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns and Arkham Asylum in terms of late 80s/early 90s graphic novels that revolutionised comics. It's a phenomenal work.
Garth Ennis called it "one of the very best comic books ever published" and he's not wrong. Beautiful, bleak, harrowing, hopeful, The Last American is a too-often-ignored classic of the medium shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/XB...
