A musician (saxophone, keyboards, percussion, singing) and photographer, trying to stop the light from dying.
I was never a big Madness fan back in the 80s, but their songs are some of the best pieces of music in the world to play live. You can't stop yourself having the time of your life!

I'm so old, my copy of Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables still has the heads. 😁

45 years old and still perfect.

One Step Beyond (Prince Buster/Madness) - I learnt this a couple of years ago for a show that never happened. Weirdly I've never played it since, either.

Playing music in front of an audience, or any live performance really, can be a terrifying experience. You are completely exposed - there's absolutely no where to hide (unless you're a band that mimes to backing tracks, and there are hundreds of those).

Luckily, our audience always rocks! 😁

When you're a band that plays 100% live, that doesn't use trickery to pretend that what you're hearing is what's actually being played on the stage - assuming that's anything at all and what you're actually watching are people miming - the audience feels that difference ... and they love it!

Another great music autobiography. So much in this is relatable, too. Often painfully so. Our comparative successes may be slightly skewed in Melanie C's favour, but the emotional rollercoaster is all too familiar.

Dear BBC News ... really? 😂

Who knew Lidl beer was this nice?!? You rarely see Porters these days - this is a surprisingly nice one.

This show, with the amazing So True (www.so-true.co.uk) doing their 80's Party Night, was so hot. Like, really, really hot - if you're not from the UK, then you may not know that air-con is not that common.

The audience danced from the very first note. Can't ask for more.

Getting my #pride on last night. Hot, sweaty and rocking. A great night. 😁

It's a sin, having this much fun. 😉

'You don't need to worry about space in front of the stage. The audience here never gets up to dance.'

Wanna bet? 😁

I have something of a passion for musician (auto)biographies. It doesn't matter what genre they played in, their books never seem to let you down. Martin Kemp's Ticket to the World keeps this trend going.

Life on stage is real life. What happens elsewhere is simply waiting for life to start again. 🤘

When you don't mime on stage, things don't always go to plan. You can engage diva mode, or you can laugh about it. We're not divas... 🤣

Because life's too short and music's too life affirming to not enjoy playing on stage as much as you possibly can. 😁

I'm so lucky! I love playing music. I especially love playing music to people who love to listen and dance! 😍

What a weekend! Playing amazing 80's music to a theatre full of people who have turned up ready, willing and able to sing and dance the roof off the place. And, boy, they did just that!

There's only one thing in this world that will never leave you, never let down - great music. 😍

It turns out that applying make-up properly is actually a much harder skill than I ever realised. A skill, I've discovered, that I simply don't have. 😁

So True - The Tribute To Spandau Ballet (www.so-true.co.uk) comprises of 9 very serious musicians who dedicate their lives to preserving the gravitas of the oeuvres of G. Kemp Esq. and his quintet.

A little video action of a very old Spandau Ballet song, Glow, played by the only Spandau Ballet tribute that the original band supports, So True. (www.so-true.co.uk)

I've not lived in Manchester for quite some time, but there are days when I truly miss my old home-town.

I don't recognise most of it anymore as she's been cleaned, polished and gentrified. The old, real Manchester is still there, though. The place that spawned revolutions and the greatest music.

First time using a Midas mixer (doing a small warm-up gig for a new theatre show). Ooh, they sound lovely.

I'm not really a keyboard player, but sometimes you have to learn someone else's part ... just in case.

This is Dr Beat by Miami Soundmachine, which has some challenging timings. It's very rare that I have to count this much in a song.
