“It is within your power to ensure that our lives are not upended and that we can continue to deliver high-quality results for the company and the client.”

These roles cannot simply be replaced by AI, and it is time for employers like TikTok to show leadership by negotiating with unions to explore every alternative before resorting to layoffs.

These proposed cuts reflect a troubling trend in big tech to prioritise immediate profits at the expense of employee wellbeing and livelihoods. Through our own membership, DATACWU has witnessed the gruelling, yet invaluable work content moderators do to keep social media safe.
