The very squishy and rotund mushroom I found six days ago has completely transformed into a thin, almost 2D mushroom leather. I was trying to lift it up with the stick to show the new shape (note translucent edges), but it was pretty stuck to the grass blades underneath. RIP glossy ‘shroom 🍄‍🟫

Mushroom, spotted with growths, in my PNW yard. Several winged insects crawling on it. This is the first time I’ve seen this variety. Anyone know what it is?

The warm couple of days earlier this week have kickstarted some life! 🍄

After seeing the meteor/fireball, I reported it to the American Meteor Society website. 5 other ppl also saw it! So cool that they consolidate reports onto a map so we can estimate the trajectory. It was an amazing sight! Event 1788-2025

I just saw a meteor? It was an orange yellow bright light, heading east-southeast to west-northwest over Vashon island. It happened so fast, just caught it out of the corner of my eye and watched as it streaked across. May’ve been some kind of space debris or satellite falling? Crazy

Bruno and I are enjoying a random, sunny 67 degree afternoon in March. He’s clearly saying Get up and play! I don’t think I can leave my west facing deck. Work won’t mind.

Another Excellent thread outlining the impact of cutting indirects on NIH grants.
Apologies for this long post I put together to explain to non-scientists the impact of NIH cuts: Last night, an “atomic bomb” was dropped on the biomedical science community. We were informed that effective immediately, indirect costs on NIH grants (both current and future) would be fixed at 15%.

Wrote my congressman and senators today to ask them to speak up against the sudden and capricious cancellation of study sections at the NIH. Delaying funding for essential research into human health is idiotic.

Devastating is right. All NIH study sections and council meetings through Feb 1 canceled. 100s of grant’s review and consideration needlessly halted. Each application represents years of work carefully structured into a proposal to tackle the next most important questions in biomedical research.
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

For women, the muscle and joint pains of aging could be linked to a loss of estrogen. A few lifestyle changes can make a big difference.
