I am not suggesting true open borders (nor has pretty much anyone despite what poison is being fed to people), nor am I suggesting not deporting truly bad criminals (and you know, maybe keeping some of those out of elected office while we're at it) but this is just pure unempathetic cruelty.
Laughing in front of cages designed to hold migrants and refugees, many of whom came to this country fleeing extreme violence and poverty, and hoping to raise their children in a more compassionate country. And many of whom followed all the legal procedures to enter the country.
