Citing the Supreme Court's recent ruling in the Kennedy prayer case, Barton said public schools were now free to display Christian symbols in classrooms, pray at the beginning of school events, and have kids sing traditional Christian hymns during school performances. "We can now go back to teaching things we haven't been able to teach in fifty years," Barton said, and then argued that public schools should present the biblical creation narrative as an alternative to the science of evolution. "Progressives took all this stuff out, we have an opportunity to put it back in." Barton acknowledged that school leaders would face blowback for making these decisions. But that, too, it seemed, was part of God's plan. "Hopefully somebody will sue you if you do this," Barton said. "That's what we need. Because if they will sue you, these guys will take it to court, we can win at that, and the whole nation wins as a result." That was the game plan, spelled out in public view: Use the power of local boards and state legislatures to force religion back into public schools, then hope for a legal challenge that might serve as a test case to get the Supreme Court to overturn the separation of church and state in America, once and for all.”

This is a wide coalition of Christians with many differing opinions but are coalesced around their shared idea that America is and should be a Christian state. Now from SCOTUS to the military our government is enmeshed in evangelism in powerful ways.

These men are openly and proudly Christian nationalist. And there’s a whole network of them. This is a strong and convicted group of Christians who are using this moment of American politics to enact their vision on the country.
Christian nationalists dream of taking over America. This movement is actually doing it.
