I work with kids on social emotional learning. This attitude doesn't surprise me, but what she forgot to include was that they don't have the same tolerance when htheir kid gets punched or bullied by someone else's kid whose parents feel the same way.

We just fired someone the other week, and while strike 3 was infact them screwing up something technical, the first 2 strikes were them horribly failing to work well with others, and their lack of emotional intelligence in dealing with the mistake was what make a mistake job terminating.

It's also not actually true, if you are good at math but not white and at least male-presenting, and also to some minimum extent familiar with and tolerant of the signals and values of bourgeois society, then you will not see a bit of benefit from it
