I had to send some Postal Orders yesterday. Yes such things still exist but not only have they not changed the royal face on the front, the photo of the one they do have was taken in about 1960. Is there some arcane reason for this?

So this weekend’s project involved painting our hall. The paint we chose was called ‘Mummy’. Turns out that the colour used to be called ‘Mummy Brown’ and was, until the early 19th Century, partly made from mummy remains; it has a rather gruesome history:

Great evening at New River Studios in north London for the launch of the new book about and by Huggy Bear. Jo Johnson read extracts and there was an impromptu sort of reunion which effortlessly recaptured why they were important.
